Hemostatic Collagen Sponge
Introduction
Surgiclean Hemostatic Collagen Sponge is a biodegradable biomaterial extracted from bovine Achilles tendons and processed into a white or light yellow spongy solid through lyophilization (freeze-drying) technology. Its main component is collagen. The product is packaged in an inner PETG blister and then sealed in an aluminum foil bag. It has excellent water absorption properties, capable of absorbing no less than 30 times its own weight in water. The product is sterilized by irradiation and is intended for single-use only.
Mechanism of Surgiclean Hemostatic Collagen Sponge
Hemostatic Effect: The collagen sponge can absorb liquid up to dozens of times its own weight, forming blood clots on its surface to block blood vessels. Collagen molecules effectively adsorb, aggregate, and activate platelets and coagulation factors, thereby initiating endogenous hemostasis.
Repair Effect: Collagen serves as a growth factor for fibroblasts and vascular endothelial cells, promoting the regeneration of collagen fibers and capillaries. This accelerates the repair and regeneration of granulation tissue and epithelial cells.
By forming a three-dimensional scaffold on the wound surface through implanted collagen fibers, it provides structural support for cell regeneration and migration, creating an optimal environment for tissue repair. This process accelerates wound healing and shortens the repair time of the damaged area. Additionally, by inducing the migration of growth factors, it facilitates the differentiation of epithelial and endothelial cells, further promoting tissue regeneration and repair.
Filling Effect: This product can be used to fill residual cavities following various surgical procedures.

Scope of Application
Used for hemostasis of non-pulsatile small arteries, small veins, and capillaries during abdominal surgery when conventional hemostatic methods such as pressure, ligation, electrocoagulation, or other methods are ineffective.
Contraindications
1. It is forbidden to use this product in blood vessels to prevent thrombosis.
2. Patients with a history of allergy to bovine materials or collagen products are prohibited from using this product.
3. It is not recommended to use this product on skin incisions, otherwise the physical properties of dry collagen may affect the repair and healing of the skin and tissue at the edge of the incision.
4. It is restricted for patients with autoimmune diseases.
Method for Usage
External Application on Body Surfaces:
When using the Hemostatic Collagen Sponge on the body surface, routine disinfection of the wound or injured area should be performed first. Cut the Hemostatic Collagen Sponge to an appropriate size, cover the wound with the rough side facing down, and secure it with medical gauze, cotton, or other dressings. When changing dressings or performing wound care, there is no need to remove the originally applied product; a new piece can be applied directly over the existing one.
Internal Use as Hemostatic Material:
When using this Hemostatic Collagen Sponge internally as a hemostatic material, cut it into different sizes as needed. Cover the surgical wound with the rough side facing down and apply gentle pressure for 1–2 minutes to adhere it to the wound. If necessary, it can be sutured in place for additional fixation.
